Trails of Trees

The Dillon Tree Board, Bike Walk Montana, and the BTC gathered for guided tours of the Dillon Trail of Trees on June 3, 2017, at Jaycee Park, located in downtown Dillon. Tours included both walking and biking. The walking tours did a portion of the trail in the downtown area, and the bike tours will included the entire trial. Tours departed shortly after 10 a.m , and then later at 11 a.m. The trees on the trail have recently been tagged with QR codes, and when scanned with a QR code reader, it will connect you online with information about the tree species. It was a wonderful and informative morning. See Dillon Trail of Trees for more details.

Montana Fish Wildlife Conservation Trust Grant - We need your help!

We  have been recommended by the Citizen's Advisory Board of the Montana Fish and Wildlife Conservation Trust to receive $50,000 in grant money to help us purchase land in Dillon's west foothills, adding to our Dillon Town Overlook trails area.  This land is Phase III of our High Trails project.  The land is for hiking, horse back riding, running and mountain bike riding. This land is for public access; all High Trails land will in time be turned over to Beaverhead County to be held by the public into perpetuity.

Please write a letter of support for us.  Please address letters to Mr. Bill Orsello and the Citizen's Advisory Board for the MFWCT.  You can email to the MFWCT to the executive director Deb Lane at dlane@mtwf.org, and CC to beaverheadtrails@gmail.com so we have record. Comment period is open until May 25, 2017.  The Trust's Joint Board will meet in June to make a final decision on appropriation of funds.

Thank you!

Trail Work Day!

We had an amazing work day on Saturday, April 15, 2017. A large number of volunteers, plus a large troupe of Montana Youth Challenge cadets accomplished amazing work on the Dillon Town Overlook Trail system. We finalized and finished some trails, connecting loops, moved rock to be safe and prevent erosion, and marked junctions. Enjoy the pictures! If you have pictures from that day, please email them and I will be happy to post and share! Thanks! beaverheadtrails@gmail.com

I Met 'Em On the Trail: Get To Know Our Executive Director Kathleen Wagner

Kathleen Wagner joined the BTC in July as our Executive Director. Kathleen is a native of Colorado, but has lived also in Missouri and Nebraska. She is most at home now in Dillon, Montana. Her background is a mixture of teaching, music, and the outdoors! She enjoys hiking, fly-fishing, biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and pretty much anything that involves being in the outdoors! Her husband is an avid fly fisherman, but loves running, mountain and road biking, climbing, hiking as well, and their two daughters are growing up loving the outdoors as well. Besides loving the outdoors and remaining constantly active in it, Kathleen also has a passion for music and teaching. She has taught general music in the public education system, as well as private lessons of voice and piano in her home studio for ages 5 to 65.

Her background in teaching, fundraising, and working with people in various ages and stages has shaped her to become a versed educator and manager in all areas, indoors and out! Kathleen is excited to help the BTC grow as a group, as well as grow the trail system in Dillon, MT. You can often find her hiking around the Dillon Overlook Trail system, or in town, working on in-town programs, taking their daughters to dance and gymnastics, dining out at local eateries and coffee shops, and always checking on future ideas. She is looking forward to hearing more of the public opinions and thoughts on Nov. 30th at the BTC public input meeting. This will be held at UM Western, 5:30 pm. Please join! Kathleen is glad to be meeting more of the people of Dillon, and her door is always open to new conversation, so feel free to contact her!

Thank you for a great event!

Enjoy the pictures below from our event on Saturday, October 1, celebrating the new land acquired for the high trails project. This new land connected the "M" to the "B". We started the celebration with speeches and a hike in the high trails system, with rain, sleet, wind, sun and a rainbow at the end! Then we moved on to the Beaverhead Brewing Company to continue celebrating with speeches, music, cake, brews, unveiled new updated maps of high country, and fun! Thank you all for such a great celebration!
