BTC GETS BLM Land-Bridge from Brown Family

A trail north of the 10-Mile Road to the BLM has been a Beaverhead Trails Coalition dream since 2014 when acquisition of the “High Trails” land west of Dillon began. With over 1,100 acres of land acquired and construction of 10-plus miles of trails by 2021, only one-half mile separated the northwest corner of the High Trails land from the BLM.

Since then, Harold and Linda Brown have unselfishly sold 40 acres to the Coalition for a “land-bridge” to the BLM.   The purchase was completed  in 2022 with a grant from the Montana Fish & Wildlife Conservation Trust.  The property is shown on the High Trails map.

The land-bridge is currently not open to the public pending completion of a fence on the east and north sides of the property.  The Coalition is currently raising money for the fence and hoping to construct it and create a connector trail to the BLM in 2023.

The Beaverhead Trails Coalition thanks the following individuals and organizations for their help with this project:

  • Harold and Linda Brown

  • Montana Fish & Wildlife Conservation Trust

  • Ellyn Cahill and Best of the West Properties

  • Joyce Connors, Dan Downey, and Pete Wakeman for their vision!
